Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Too many thoughts going on at the same time? Feeling stuck but not sure the reason? Life has a way of throwing curveballs, and sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it feels like your mind is working against you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you untangle these overwhelming thoughts. It helps you take control of your mind and shift unhelpful or negative patterns that make you feel stuck. It is used by itself or in combination with Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Therapy, or Somatic Therapy.
How does Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Work?
CBT is grounded in the idea that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are interconnected. At its core, CBT teaches that by changing your thought patterns, you can influence how you feel and behave. This means it’s not the situation itself that causes distress but how you interpret or react to it.
Your therapist will help you question these thoughts, ask if they’re true, and replace them with more constructive ones. Role-playing and calming techniques help you face your fears with confidence, so they no longer overwhelm you. It won’t be an overnight change, but with practice, every new difficulty becomes manageable.
You’ll learn effective coping strategies, like how to pause before you react in anger, challenge thoughts that trigger panic, practice mindfulness to stay grounded, and use relaxation techniques to manage stress.
