Psychodynamic Therapy is a deep, insight-oriented approach to understanding and resolving the internal conflicts that shape how you think, feel, and relate to others. As a Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist practicing virtually across Ontario, I use this approach to help clients uncover the unconscious patterns and early experiences that drive their present-day choices and emotional responses.

At its core, Psychodynamic Therapy brings what is beneath the surface into the light. Together, we explore childhood experiences, recurring dreams, forgotten memories, and the stories you carry about yourself, so you can understand why you respond to life the way you do and start responding differently.

How Does Psychodynamic Therapy Work?

Usually, psychodynamic therapy is limited to 25 sessions and recommended to those who are self-reflective and want to understand themselves deeply. During sessions, I encourage my clients to speak freely about whatever comes to their mind. It could be their dreams, desires, fears, or any memorable experience. Together, we’ll work towards making you feel emotionally mature and trust those around you, so you can form long-lasting healthy relationships.

In the first few sessions, you might feel overwhelmed as you experience and learn about a range of emotions. Discomfort or sadness may come up, and that is usually a sign that something meaningful is shifting.

You’ll notice reactions and behaviors that you missed before, which then turns into emotional relief and a sense of control. My goal is for you to leave this work feeling a more profound sense of clarity, emotional freedom, and personal growth.

Who Is Psychodynamic Therapy For?

This approach tends to be a good fit if you:

  • Find yourself repeating the same relationship patterns with different people
  • Feel stuck in ways that logic or willpower alone can't help shift
  • Want to understand yourself more deeply
  • Dealing with unresolved grief, loss, or experiences from childhood or teenage years
  • Feel disconnected from your emotions or struggle to identify with feelings and emotions

This approach works across a wide range of ages and life stages, and pairs well with other modalities I draw on in my practice, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems, and Somatic Therapy.

Psychodynamic therapy is a versatile therapy and works well with all ages. It can help with:

  • Depression and persistent low mood
  • Social anxiety and relationship difficulties
